Otter Works
About

We started Otter Works because two subscriptions and three background checks shouldn't be the price of getting some help.

Founder note

Two years ago, we were juggling a Tuesday-night sitter for our kids and a Wednesday-afternoon companion for one of our parents. That meant two platforms, two subscriptions, two sets of background-check fees, and two different versions of the same conversation: can I trust this person in my home?

The bigger players had answers, but those answers came with auto-renewing trials, retention specialists, and the dawning sense that we were the product. The smaller players were great at one vertical and useless at the rest.

So we built Otter Works. Five kinds of help, one trusted platform, one set of vetting, one fair price, and a cancel button that actually cancels. We want it to feel like asking a trusted neighbor — except the neighbor is background-checked, insured, and can be paid through the app on a Friday.

— The Otter Works team

What we believe

Three principles. We hold each other to them.

Care work is real work.

It deserves real wages, real benefits options, and real respect. The platform should reflect that.

Trust is earned, not claimed.

We publish our methodology. We tell you what we removed and why. We don't hide behind a help center.

Pricing should be obvious.

What it costs, when you pay, how to cancel. On one page. In plain English. Always.

Built in

Providence, Rhode Island.

A small office above a bakery on Westminster Street. The team is mostly remote across the U.S., but we get together in Providence quarterly for working sessions and absurdly large coffees.
